What is a fire risk assessment?

A fire risk assessment involves a complete inspection of your property, both externally and internally, to identify potential fire hazards or problems. The main purpose is to eliminate these dangers or reduce them to a level that provides security and control, and to ensure that your device and the location have the necessary security measures.

A fire safety “custodian” is a person who works for the employer and owns, rents, occupies, or has jurisdiction over unoccupied premises. This includes positions such as auditors, risk assessors, construction inspectors and field inspectors.

Why do I need a fire risk assessment?

To ensure legal compliance, save lives and property, and preserve property from fire, a fire risk assessment is necessary. It is a preventative action that lessens the possibility of fire-related occurrences and the harm they might cause.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires a person to have control over an establishment or workplace to reduce the risk of fire and ensure safe escape procedures in the event of fire.

In order to have adequate fire safety, individuals and companies must carry out a hazard assessment. However, to complete this measure you will need to work with an impartial, licensed and regulated fire safety professional.

When do I need a fire risk assessment?

Any significant changes to the fire protection areas of a building, whether a smoldering fire, require a new fire risk assessment. This includes not only changes in structure, but also changes in activities undertaken, changes in use, or changes in the population or type of people living in the area.
